Miracle Mile of Prairie Creek
Did you know TPCI backs on to one of the most iconic Brown Trout fishing streams in Central Alberta? The stream that borders our property is touted as the “miracle mile of Prairie Creek”. This area is highly regarded by anglers as an excellent brown trout fishing haven and it’s only within a short stroll of the Main Inn. You can find the perfect spot on the bank or wade into the creek with your fly fishing rod while you enjoy the natural peacefulness around you. But trout are not the only fish to be found in Prairie Creek. It is also a good fishing spot for northern pike, walleye and mountain whitefish.

Fishing Spots in Rocky Mountain House Area
Alford Creek – Browns to 4 lb.., Brookies to 1, Rockies to 2. Located 10 km west of Caroline on Hwy. 54. Joins Clearwater on the west, about 6.5 km upstream from the bridge. Open all year. Catch and release Sept 1 to Mar 31.
Alford Lake – Rainbows to 1 lb. Stocked annually. Travel about 25 km west of Caroline via Hwy. 54 and 591, then North. Watch for sign. Campground at Tay River. Electric Motors only.
Birch Lake – Brookies to 2 lb..; Travel 3 km west of Caroline on Hwy. 54 to Burnstick Lake turnoff (watch for sign) then 12 km south to oil road that heads west to within 100 meters of lake.
Burnstick Lake – Pike to 5 lb.., Perch to 1 lb. Walleye maybe a few browns. Located south and west of Caroline. Municipal Campground at east end. Walleye 0 limit and perch is 5.
Chamber Creek – Browns to 3 lb.., Brookies and Rockies to 1. Pike to 12 in lower reaches only. Crossed by Hwy. 11 about 32 kms west of RMH. Campground 1 km west of bridge.
Clearwater River – Browns and Rockies to 2 lb..; Brookies to 1. Bull Trout to 6; Pike to 10 in lower reaches only. Enters N. Sask at Rocky Mtn. House. Crossed by Hwy. 54 about 7 km west of Caroline, by Hwy. 22 about 16 km south of RMH and parallel by Hwy. 591 and Trunk Road for another 60 km upstream.
Cow Lake – Perch, some good sizes. Several hundred brood rainbows from 5 to 10 lb.. Stocked in spring when available. Located on Hwy. 752, about 15 km south of RMH. Campground and boat launch on the west end.
Jackfish Lake – Pike , Walleye, Perch. Outlet creek has brookies. Small lake adjacent to Hwy. 11 about 60 km west of RMH. Campground. Max. boat speed 12 km/h Walleye limit 0, Perch 5.
Medicine Lake – Pike, Perch, Main source of Medicine River. Travel about 50 km north of Rocky on Alder Flats Road (Hwy. 22), then east to lake. Campground on east side. Max. boat speed 12 km/hr Perch limit 5.
Mitchell Lake – Rainbows to 1 lb. Stocked annually. Travel about 50 km west of Sylvan Lake on Hwy. 11 to junction with Hwy. 22, then 10 km south and 10 km west. Road to lake turns left across rocky pasture. Day use site. Electric motors only.
Prairie Creek (North and Center Forks) – Browns to 5 lb.. Brookies to 1, Rockies to 2. Take Hwy. 752 about 22 kms south and west from Rocky to Strachan, where road crosses Prairie creek. North and Center forks join west of Strachan. N. Fork Prairie Cr. Road follows north fork; Hwy. 752 follows center fork. Campgrounds 2 km and 13 km west of Strachan. Catch and Release reg. apply from N fork Prairie Cr. Road downstream to to Clearwater River.
Rocky Children’s Pond – Rainbows stocked annually. Located at outskirts of Rocky Mountain House. Turn left after the bridge heading west on Hwy. 11.. No boats allowed, Children only.
Strubel Lake – Rainbows to 5 lb.. Stocked annually. Travel 51 km west of Sylvan Lake on Hwy. 11 to Hwy. 22, then south 10 km, west 10 km and south 2 km. Day use site. Campground 2 km west of Strachan on Hwy. 752. Max boat speed 12km/h.
Twin Lakes – Rainbows stocked annually, a few large brood rainbows stocked regularly
Travel west of Rocky 7 km on Hwy. 11 and 1 km north on Crimson Lake road. Campground. Max. boat speed 12km/h.
