Beat the Mid January Blues with a Dose of Nature
Did you know the third week in January is said to be the saddest week of the year, due to a combination of bad weather, long nights and the end of holiday cheer? Even though Alberta has had quite a mild winter so far, knock on wood, we sure have had our fill of other COVID related stressors. And if you find yourself feeling a little down, you’re not alone.
One of the best ways to beat the winter blues is to get out into nature. Spending time outdoors has been scientifically proven to be good for you! From improving your mental health to reducing your stress levels, nature can play a huge role in keeping you healthy.
A favorite stress buster of guests and staff alike at TPCI is to sit beside the creek, breathe in the forest air and listen to the water flow. But if you don’t have the luxury of being surrounded by lush green forests and a bubbling creek there are smaller things you can do. Take a walk in a local park, sit in a sunny window, talk to a plant… It might feel silly or unnecessary but even a 5 minute nature break can leave you feeling calmer, re-energized and uplifted.
What’s your favorite way to connect to nature?
